Carlos Martel by GENZOMAN Carlos Martel by GENZOMAN
Another draw for Myths & Legends TCG. Carlos Martel is one of my favorite historical character. I try to give him a old fashined paint style, like a old portrait... lol

Photoshop CS + paint

Very, very beautiful work :)

Can I write only a little criticism?

the name Charles Martel derives from latin Carolus Martellus. He was a great king and a great fighter, but he never used a war hammer. "Martel"  or "Martellus", in latin don't mean hammer.

It mean "Little Mars"... little GOD mars!

It was a nickname for his battle value.

This is an extremely minor criticism, but I notice that the way his left hand is angled seems unnatural.  It's positioned in a way which would be appropriate if the hammer were leaning towards us from bottom to top, but since the hammer is leaning away it's contrary to the way that hand is positioned.  Beyond that, of course, it's a marvelous picture.  I just thought I'd throw that out there for your consideration.

Very glad to see a french hero drawn, but ... his french name, his real name is Charles Martel, not Carlos.
However, he is very cool like this.
Thanks.

Ah, Charles the Hammer. Carollus Martellus. Carlos Martel.

I've always loved this guy's story. Really, even if he didn't save Christendom as he claimed afterward to have done (and he may have been right, we never know) he DID manage to halt a previously unbeatable army that had exploded out of the Arabian peninsula in a wave of conquest. He and the Byzantine Empire were pretty much the two shields of Europe from Islamic conquest.

COOOL!!! i love that guy

did you know he saved europe from becoming an islamistic state like the middle east.

when those murderous arabians (and no they DEFINATELY werent surpressed: they were the ones surpressing)
came to spain and conquered it: raping, murdering, and burning churges (they did check wikipedia) they did so because they had a solid tactic: fire arrow: when enemy's come: retreat then repeat firing arrows, and when forced into melee: charge from unsespected positions and when the tie turns pull back and try again.

now i respect them for that cool tactic: but of course it was the thing that treatened all of the west. martel saw that tactic and new they would loose. unless he would form an elite group of warriors who could coup with that.

in the aftermath that spain fall to murder and pillage, the arabians immediately wanted to go on: they used this tactic for over 100's of years and were never defeated: not by spain not by egypt not by alexandria not by turkey not by iran not by irak not by afrika not by india not by any other country.

ONLY by carel martel, the leader of the FRANKS. he equiped an elite group of warriors known as the Frankish riders: which would later evolve to the knight for their powerfull martial skill (and no black knight of monty piton)
these heavily armored warriors could resist misslile fire, move at an faster speed then the arabian breeds of horses: and were bigger and stronger, many of them could easily knock down an arab horse sending the rider to its death: however normally this would lead to the death of the charger as well: if not for one invension: the saddle foot holders (or whatever their named in english XD) because of these they could colide full against an arabian warrior and hold on. plus they had a humangous long lance ( not the one with dueling guys: a very long and agile spear used for charging and trowing)

with these weapons, the arabs got pwned and europe stayed christian: even if the rest was now made from christian to muslim :(

after that they drove the muslims back such as the more (an african black tribe given power and enslaving europe, and NO all people are racistic both white and black so dont give me crap about that remark being resistic; if you cant take history dont live in this world lol) however it took 3 knight orders to finally kick their ass back to africa (again: i judge people on actions not skin color guys cheeze)

he would so pwn ^^

If that hammer is anything like solid metal, it ought to weigh about the same as a small car. Not the kind of guy you'd want to pick a fight with.

puntualmente carlos era hijo de pipino, al dibujo lo hice en base a la batalla de poitiers, donde martel enfrento a los musulmanes junto con los francos. es de suma importancia para los carolingios

sale en reino de acero :)
