Viracocha by GENZOMAN Viracocha by GENZOMAN
Hi there guys! a pic done a long time ago in a livestream session. This time Viracocha or Wiracocha, the creator of the pre-inca world, want to know more about him?

based on the classical representation in the inca world [link]

Let´s wikiattack!
Viracocha is the great creator god in the pre-Inca and Inca mythology in the Andes region of South America. Full name and some spelling alternatives are Apu Qun Tiqsi Wiraqutra and Con-Tici (also spelled Kon-Tiki) Viracocha. Viracocha was one of the most important deities in the Inca pantheon and seen as the creator of all things, or the substance from which all things are created, and intimately associated with the sea. Viracocha created the universe, sun, moon and stars, time (by commanding the sun to move over the sky) and civilization itself. Viracocha was worshipped as god of the sun and of storms. He was represented as wearing the sun for a crown, with thunderbolts in his hands, and tears descending from his eyes as rain.

Viracocha rose from Lake Titicaca during the time of darkness to bring forth light. He made the sun, moon, and the stars. He made mankind by breathing into stones, but his first creation were brainless giants that displeased him. So he destroyed it with a flood and made a new, better one from smaller stones. Viracocha eventually disappeared across the Pacific Ocean, walking on the water, and never returned. He wandered the earth disguised as a beggar, teaching his new creations the basics of civilization, as well as working numerous miracles. He wept when he saw the plight of the creatures he had created. It was thought that Viracocha would re-appear in times of trouble.

Great pic!

Interesting how they thought Lake Titicaca existed at the beginning. Kind of like the Egyptians with their Nile.

the details and colors are quite amazing, but I must say I feel quite displeased with your idea of Wiracocha... he looks way too mexican to me, not at all "Inka" particularly I find the helmet and the staffs a little off...

anyway, the piece is quite impresive yet I cannot help but feel it's not so close to Wiracocha.

what is it that inspires your work, bringing you to do these cultural figures? How do you get your information? I wanted to do a piece like this about Taino figures but i can't seem to find the information anywhere.....

As always you amaze Genzoman, putting the mythical/godlike story behind them aside, you always seem to portray these characters in such a magnificent light, aggressive stance, and larger than life way that is just incredible. i have yet to find a single one of your works i do not like, and i doubt i ever will. I am planning on buy the Print book from amazon soon

As an avid student of myths I find this, among most of your work, not only enjoyable and amazing, but also educational. You do take some artistic licence, but that only serves to make the image incredible and I must say I enjoy what you draw far more than anything I have learned in school. I do not have real words that can covey how I find your work, for it actually makes me want to research into myths I have never heard of before. Wonderful work good sir, simply wonderful.
