Warhammer - Emperor of Mankind by GENZOMAN Warhammer - Emperor of Mankind by GENZOMAN
Hi there guys, here goes another pic done in a livestream long time ago. This time, the Emperor of mankind from Warhammer universe, dedicated to :iconantcow: :) hope you like it

Bamboo/PSCS3/9hours/music: The Ship - Yoko Kanno (this is maybe my favorite track from her awesome Songs to Fly album)
[link]

The Emperor of Mankind is the immortal ruling monarch of the Imperium of Man, and is described by the Imperial Ecclesiarchy and the Imperial Cult as the Father, Guardian and God of humanity. The Chaos Gods and the daemons of the Warp refer to him as "the Anathema" for he is the greatest embodiment of universal Order in the galaxy today. He has sat immobile, his body slowly crumbling, within the Golden Throne of Terra for over 10,000 standard years. Although once a living man, his shattered, decaying body can no longer support life, and it is kept intact only by the cybernetic mechanisms of the Golden Throne and a potent mind itself sustained by the daily sacrifice of thousands of lives. The Emperor chose to sacrifice his immortal life at the end of the Horus Heresy in the service and protection of Mankind. To humanity's countless trillions across the galaxy-spanning Imperium, he is nothing less than a God. Through his Imperium, Mankind is united and remains one of the most powerful intelligent races in the Milky Way Galaxy as well as its most dominant in terms of both population and territory held. United under one government, Mankind is able to survive the myriad deadly threats it faces from aliens, the Forces of Chaos and the Traitors, Heretics and mutants that lie within the Imperium's boundaries. The Imperium's rule, carried on in the Emperor's name since the end of the Horus Heresy by the High Lords of Terra and a multitude of Imperial organisations, has been long, oppressive and necessarily harsh. It has also resulted in technological and cultural stagnation, and a regression into tyranny, superstition and religious obfuscation and intolerance that would have horrified the Emperor. Though he is no longer responsive to external stimuli, the Emperor still lies at the very heart of the Imperium's continued existence. Although he cannot be directly involved in the day-to-day running of humanity's galactic government, his existence on the Golden Throne is vital to sustaining the Imperium, since his powerful mind's presence in the Immaterium maintains and directs the Astronomican, the psychic beacon that makes possible faster-than-light Warp travel and is vital to Imperial shipping, transportation, commerce and communication. He is said to guide his race through the psychically-reactive divination tool known as the Emperor's Tarot, which select psykers can consult to gain a glimpse of the future and the Emperor's will. He is also said to constantly battle the Chaos Gods in the Warp and prevent their further intrusion upon the material universe. His mind must remain vigilant at all times throughout the entire Imperium to safeguard the human race and to offer his protection to the faithful. Above all else, it is Mankind's collective belief in the Emperor's divinity that serves as humanity's greatest protection from Chaos and the other hideous dangers that plague the galaxy. As the Imperial Creed has taught for over 10,000 standard years, the Emperor protects...

Mere mortal such as ourselves. The Emperor is infallible.

Mortals such as ourselves yes, correct. But, which mortals specifically, hmmm? If you remember, they feed on the souls of psykers. Now fellow faithful tell me this: how is the Emperor kept alive?

By the sacrifice of thousands of faithful psychers who cannot control themselves. Also, the Emperor has incredible willpower and would be able to combat any demon. Furthermore, the Emperor is the greatest power of Order in the universe. If he was corrupted by Chaos, why would the Chaos Gods want him dead?

Simple, because he is not the God-Emperor. At least not the one that charged in Horus' flagship. Simply put, Horus betrayed the Ruinous Powers because he would have to share the throne with them.

HERESY!

And you are wrong. Not only because the sacrifice powers the Astronomicon  wich is, for the Imperium, the only thing that safe them from the Endtime. But also that the sacrifices are less for the Emperor himself but for the Golden Throne.

And...dont forget Malcador. In his sacrifice you see that in no way it was the Emperor that took the energy of a psyker but his throne.

There are more things that would end your theory. For example belive in one god, may it be Chaos or Emperor, gives them power.
So if all belive in the Emperor, that would give him, not Horus at his place, power. Or that its all known (canon) that the emperor not only
killed but destroyed ever little bit of Horus. And so on.

Now, have fun with the
Ordo Hereticus.

WOW!!!
Excellent work.

Reading the Horus Heresy novels ( and listening to the audio books ), it seems that the Emperor is an Eternal,  basically immortal ( like the Primarch Vulkan who died numerous times and always came back whole ).  In the past He has been known by many names, one of them being Merlin, and He has aways guided humanity towards the future.
The Golden Throne is designed to heal His wounds, meaning that He can leave it at any time ( from  the Inquisitor rulebook ), but the Ministorum and Inquisition decided to keep Him enthroned to use His "sacrifice" to motivate humanity on a path that suited them.  As the 41st Millennium comes to an end the Golden Throne is beginning to malfunction, and the Mechanicum cannot fix it.  It was never designed to function continually for as long as it has, and when it fails the Emperor will awaken, signalling the return of the surviving loyal Primarchs ( Guilliman, Russ, El'Jonson, Khan,  and Vulkan ) as has been prophesied.

Really? I've only ever read 1 or 2 of the Horus Heresy novels but from what it says in the background section of the rulebook, well it sounded like the golden throne is keeping the emperor alive but slowly failing due to the lack of real technological knowledge, and that when it does the Emperor will die. But I suppose that's just an assumption I made based on how dystopic and hopeless the Imperium is in 40K. This certainly sounds like humanity's prospects are much better than I thought though.
On a side note, I thought Sanguinius was loyal too? Or is he discounted on the basis of being irrevocably dead?

In the Inquisitor rulebook there is a short piece that is set just after the Emperor has been interred on the Golden Throne.  It reveals that the Throne is meant to heal His injuries, and that He can leave it at anytime.  One faction of the fledgling Inquisitors wants to revive Him, but the other wants to keep Him interred, building on His apparent sacrifice for Humanity, turning Him into a true God-Emperor.  When the Horus Heresy books come to an end a new twist will probably be placed on the tale.

As for the loyal Primaries - Guilliman is in a stasis field, his wound apparently showing signs of healing.  Russ is off on a hunt somewhere, prophecised to return at the End Times.  Dorn is belive dead, a skeletal forearm and hand all that remains.  Corax, well it's a secret.  Vulkan, he's an eternal, so is out there somewhere.  Sanguinius, dead at Horus's hand.  And the Iron Hand's Primarch (whose name I cannot remember at the moment), he was beheaded on Istvaan by the daemon possessed Primarch of the Emperor's Children.

And as for the two Legions who were removed from all data banks, they were added to the Ultramarines Legion (which is why it was so large).  Their Primarch's fates are unknown, as are their names

Wow. I really need to up more on the Primarches, I just don't have enough money to buy all the Horus Heresy books right now (what with there being so many).
Anyway, thank you. Very enlightening :)

Don't forget the novellas, audio books,  and the graphic novel.

New book series has started (12 books) which is set not long after the Heresy, and just after the last Primarch vanished.  Book 1 is "I Am Slaughter".
The Imperium is young, still forming, and the scars of the Horus Heresy run deep.  The Space Marines are now divided into Chapters 1,000 strong, the Imperial Army is now the Imperial Guard, and the fledgling Inquisition watches all.  But out of the darkness a new threat emerges.
The Beast rises....

I think I might have seen some of the artwork for that on here actually, with allot of orks. I'm still split about whether or not to buy the new space marine codex, I've fallen behind after they released the 7th edition rulebook way too quickly after the 6th (in my opinion). How easy do you think it is to pick up cheap old editions of the codexes? I might buy up on some of them for the information.

The new codex is brilliant, and it goes well with the other adeptus astartes codexes.  It appears that each of the main chapter's are going to get their own updated books, with a few others getting their own ones for the first time.
Buy a new one as the info inside is useful.

Old codexes are now hard to find, and prices can vary widely.  I looked online for one and saw one for sale at £84 (second hand).  My local comic shop sells second hand ones that customers don't want anymore for around £4.99.  Best bet is try comic shops that also sell Games Workshop products, they might also sell 2nd hand codexes.

Hope this helps you.

If they do, Legions of Daemons will appear in Terra and destroy everything and everyone. The Imperium will fall, a second Eye of Terror will be formed and the whole galaxy will fall to Chaos. I'd rather get stomped by Orks or nommed by Tyranids than let that happen.

...you forget that the emperor is a god. His mortal form is nothing more than a shell. If anything one he is "dead" he'll be free to finish his reincarnation. Even the daemons refer to him as the god of order so to speak.
